Overview

Cyclophosphamide + idarubicin is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two small molecule antineoplastic agents. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA, thereby inhibiting DNA replication and cell division, particularly during the resting phase of the cell cycle. Idarubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to DNA damage at any point in the cell cycle. This combination has demonstrated antitumor activity in various cancers, including breast cancer (notably in postmenopausal patients with metastatic disease), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), lymphomas, and other hematologic malignancies. The regimen exploits complementary mechanisms to maximize cytotoxicity against rapidly dividing tumor cells[1][5][6].
