Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of cyclophosphamide (an alkylating agent), pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (an anthracycline encapsulated in a liposomal delivery system), and trastuzumab (a HER2-targeted monoclonal antibody). This combination is used for the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer. Trastuzumab works by binding to the HER2 receptor on cancer cells, blocking cell growth and division. It targets the HER2 protein that is overexpressed in some breast cancers. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that damages DNA and prevents cancer cell replication. Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin is an anthracycline that interferes with DNA and RNA synthesis in cancer cells.
