Overview

This drug is a combination chemotherapy regimen known as COPP, consisting of four agents: - Cyclophosphamide: an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and RNA transcription by cross-linking DNA strands. - Prednisone: a corticosteroid that induces apoptosis in certain cancer cells and has anti-inflammatory effects. - Procarbazine: an alkylating agent that causes DNA damage leading to cell death. - Vincristine (vincristine sulfate): a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation in mitotic spindle, arresting cell division. The combination works synergistically to kill cancer cells through different mechanisms. It is primarily used for the treatment of Hodgkin's disease (Hodgkin lymphoma) and has also been used in non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The regimen was developed as part of multi-agent chemotherapy protocols for advanced lymphomas. Each component drug is FDA-approved individually for cancer treatment.
