Overview

Cyclophosphamide followed by docetaxel is a chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of breast cancer. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that works by cross-linking DNA strands, thereby interfering with DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death. Docetaxel is a taxane, a type of microtubule inhibitor. It promotes the assembly of microtubules from tubulin dimers and inhibits their depolymerization, resulting in the stabilization of microtubules. This stabilization prevents the normal dynamic reorganization of the microtubule network required for vital interphase and mitotic cellular functions, ultimately leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. This sequential combination is often part of broader chemotherapy protocols, frequently preceded by an anthracycline, in both neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings for breast cancer.
