Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cyclosporine (also known as ciclosporin) is a small molecule immunosuppressant that functions as a calcineurin inhibitor. This specific formulation, developed by Apidel, utilizes the proprietary APID-SOL polymeric micelle delivery system to enhance the solubility and bioavailability of the hydrophobic cyclosporine molecule. By encapsulating the drug within polymeric micelles, the formulation is designed to improve therapeutic delivery for inflammatory conditions of the eye and skin, including dry eye syndrome, uveitis, corneal graft rejection, and psoriasis. The APID-SOL technology aims to provide a clear, aqueous solution that avoids the irritation often associated with traditional oil-based cyclosporine formulations. As of the last available reports, the candidate was in preclinical development.
