This is a combination ophthalmic therapy consisting of cyclosporine, an immunomodulatory agent, and a micro-emulsion lipid layer artificial tear. Cyclosporine acts as a calcineurin inhibitor that suppresses T-cell activation and reduces ocular surface inflammation, thereby increasing tear production in patients with dry eye disease. The micro-emulsion lipid layer artificial tear is designed to supplement the natural tear film by restoring or mimicking its lipid component, improving ocular surface lubrication and reducing evaporation. When used together, the micro-emulsion formulation enhances patient tolerance to cyclosporine by alleviating discomfort associated with its instillation and may improve compliance in individuals at risk of failing or who have previously failed immunomodulatory therapy for dry eye disease[1][5]. This combination targets both the underlying inflammatory process (via cyclosporine) and the physical deficiency of the tear film (via artificial tears), providing synergistic relief for dry eye symptoms.
