Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cyclosporine + varicella vaccine is a combination of the immunosuppressant drug cyclosporine and the live attenuated varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. Cyclosporine acts primarily by inhibiting calcineurin, leading to suppression of T-cell activation and immune response. The live attenuated varicella vaccine stimulates both cell-mediated and humoral immunity against the varicella-zoster virus, providing protection against chickenpox or shingles. This combination has been studied in specific clinical contexts such as severe psoriasis, where adjunctive use of the vaccine with low-dose cyclosporine may modulate immune responses by influencing T helper 17 (Th17) and regulatory T cell (Treg) balance[4]. However, combining these agents is generally contraindicated due to increased risk of infection from live vaccines in immunosuppressed patients[3][6][8].
