Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cyclosporine A dry powder inhalation is an investigational pulmonary formulation developed by the University Medical Center Groningen for the treatment of Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome (BOS) in lung transplant recipients. The formulation utilizes a sugar-glass based solid dispersion technology to deliver cyclosporine A, a potent calcineurin inhibitor, directly to the site of chronic rejection in the lungs. By achieving high local concentrations while minimizing systemic exposure, this therapy aims to suppress T-cell activation and the subsequent production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, potentially offering a more tolerable and effective alternative to high-dose oral immunosuppressants for patients with limited therapeutic options.
