Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cyclosporine Inhalation Solution (CIS) is an inhaled formulation of the calcineurin inhibitor cyclosporine, developed by APT Pharmaceuticals for the prevention and treatment of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) in lung transplant recipients. By delivering the drug directly to the lungs via a nebulizer, CIS aims to achieve high local concentrations of the immunosuppressant to inhibit T-cell mediated graft rejection while minimizing the systemic side effects typically associated with oral or intravenous cyclosporine. The drug was evaluated in the Phase 3 CYCLIST trial, which focused on improving BOS-free survival in lung transplant recipients. However, development was ultimately terminated following the trial's completion.
