Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Verkazia is a topical ophthalmic emulsion containing cyclosporine at 0.1% concentration, specifically developed for the treatment of vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) in children and adults. VKC is a rare, severe allergic eye condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the ocular surface, leading to symptoms such as intense itching, pain, light sensitivity, tearing, and mucous discharge. Cyclosporine acts as an immunomodulator by inhibiting calcineurin in T-cells; this blocks T-cell activation and reduces the release of inflammatory mediators responsible for VKC symptoms. Verkazia’s unique cationic oil-in-water formulation enhances ocular bioavailability of cyclosporine while minimizing systemic exposure. Clinical trials have demonstrated that Verkazia significantly improves corneal health and reduces VKC symptoms with a manageable safety profile[1][2][3][4][5][8].
