Cycloviolacin O15 is a macrocyclic peptide belonging to the cyclotide family, originally isolated from the medicinal plant *Viola odorata*. It is characterized by a unique head-to-tail cyclic backbone and a knotted arrangement of three disulfide bonds, known as the cyclic cystine knot (CCK) motif. This structure provides the peptide with exceptional stability against thermal, chemical, and enzymatic degradation. A 2025 computational study utilizing virtual screening and molecular docking identified Cycloviolacin O15 as a potential inhibitor of the neuraminidase protein (specifically NanA) of *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. By targeting this enzyme, which is essential for bacterial adherence, colonization, and the degradation of host glycoconjugates, Cycloviolacin O15 is being explored as a novel therapeutic candidate for respiratory infections caused by this pathogen.
