Cycrimine is a synthetic, centrally acting anticholinergic drug primarily used in the treatment and management of Parkinson’s disease. Developed in the 1950s, it alleviates symptoms such as tremors and rigidity by reducing acetylcholine levels in the brain, thereby restoring balance with dopamine, which is deficient in Parkinson's patients. Cycrimine acts as an antagonist at the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M1, inhibiting acetylcholine's action to relieve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Its chemical structure features a piperidine ring with cyclopentyl and phenyl groups and a tertiary alcohol group[2][6][8].
