Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CYCU-3 is an aluminum-based metal-organic framework (Al-MOF) that functions as a coordination polymer matrix for drug encapsulation and controlled delivery. It is primarily investigated for its ability to form solid-state complexes with gemcitabine, a cytidine analog used in cancer treatment. By encapsulating the drug through non-covalent interactions at its O-H and COO- groups, CYCU-3 facilitates a delayed release profile, which aims to mitigate the 'burst effect' and systemic side effects associated with conventional gemcitabine administration. Research has demonstrated that CYCU-3-gemcitabine complexes exhibit time-dependent cytotoxicity against pancreatic cancer cells (PANC-1) in vitro.
