Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cydiodine is an iodine-containing antiseptic formulation developed by Beijing Hwells Pharmaceutical (Beijing Wellso). It is a beta-cyclodextrin inclusion compound of molecular iodine (I2) and potassium iodide (KI). Formulated as a buccal lozenge, it is indicated for the local treatment of oral and pharyngeal conditions such as chronic sore throat, oral ulcers, chronic gingivitis, and periodontitis. The therapeutic effect is mediated by the release of active iodine, which provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity by oxidizing microbial proteins and enzymes. It is marketed in China as an over-the-counter medication.
