Overview

Cydonia fruit, derived from the quince (*Cydonia oblonga*), is a botanical active ingredient used in anthroposophic medicine for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever). It is primarily developed and manufactured by WALA Heilmittel GmbH, often as part of the combination product Gencydo (also known as Citrus/Cydonia comp.), which also contains lemon juice (*Citrus limon*). The extract functions as an immunological modulator, selectively promoting the production of the regulatory cytokine Interleukin-10 (IL-10) over Interleukin-12 (IL-12). This mechanism helps to rebalance the Th2-skewed immune response typical of allergic rhinitis by influencing T-cell differentiation. Cydonia fruit has a long history of clinical use spanning over eighty years and is available in formulations for subcutaneous injection and as a nasal spray.
