Overview

CYGNUS is a human tissue-derived amniotic allograft developed by VIVEX Biologics, specifically designed for use as a biological barrier in various surgical applications, including spine surgery. It is processed using the proprietary Integrity Processing method, which is intended to maintain the inherent biological properties of the amniotic membrane, such as its extracellular matrix, growth factors, and cytokines, while ensuring the tissue is cleansed and dehydrated. In the context of spinal procedures, CYGNUS is applied to provide a protective layer over the dura or nerve roots, helping to minimize the formation of postoperative adhesions (scar tissue) and supporting the natural healing of soft tissues. As an HCT/P (Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products), it is regulated under Section 361 of the PHS Act, meaning it is minimally manipulated and intended for homologous use.
