Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cymbopogon giganteus essential oil throat spray is an investigational botanical formulation derived from the essential oil extracted from the leaves of *Cymbopogon giganteus* Chiov. (Poaceae), a medicinal plant traditionally used in several African countries. Developed by the UFR Pharmacie / Faculté des Sciences de la Santé (FSS) at the Université d'Abomey-Calavi in Benin, the spray is intended to act as an antiseptic and antibacterial agent for the treatment of sore throat (pharyngitis) caused by bacteria and viruses. The formulation is being evaluated for its efficacy and tolerance when used as a mouthwash or spray over a seven-day treatment period. As a natural product-based therapy, it represents a research-stage botanical drug candidate rather than a conventional small molecule or biologic.
