Cymbopogon martinii essential oil, commonly known as Palmarosa oil, is a volatile oil extracted primarily via hydrodistillation from the leaves of the Palmarosa plant. Its biological activity is largely attributed to its high content of monoterpenes, particularly geraniol. The oil possesses broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, demonstrating efficacy against various bacterial strains such as *Escherichia coli* and *Cutibacterium acnes*, as well as phytopathogenic fungi like *Fusarium graminearum*. In addition to its antimicrobial effects, Palmarosa oil exhibits immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activities by stimulating the production of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10) in human monocytes. Recent research has focused on its application in sustainable agriculture as a mycobiocide, often utilizing chitosan-encapsulated nanoparticles to overcome its high volatility and sensitivity to environmental factors. It is also being investigated for dental applications, specifically for the eradication of endodontic biofilms.
