Cynarin is a natural polyphenol and a major active constituent derived from the artichoke (*Cynara scolymus*). While traditionally recognized for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective properties—particularly in the context of bile production and cholesterol management—recent research has identified it as a potential therapeutic for female infertility. Cynarin specifically targets the GTP-binding pocket of the small GTPase RAB24, a protein that is significantly downregulated in the oocytes of advanced-age women. By interacting with RAB24, cynarin regulates mitophagy and maintains mitochondrial quality, which in turn improves oocyte maturation rates and reduces chromosomal aneuploidy in aged models. It is currently being investigated as a pharmacological intervention to improve oocyte quality in women of advanced maternal age.
