Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cynodon dactylon allergen extract, commonly known as Bermuda grass pollen extract, is a standardized biological allergen extract used for both the diagnosis and treatment of IgE-mediated allergies to Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon). The extract contains water-soluble proteins and other bioactive molecules from Cynodon dactylon pollen, with the major allergenic component identified as Cyn d 1. It is formulated as sterile solutions for administration. For diagnostic purposes, it is used in skin prick or intradermal testing to identify sensitivity. For therapeutic purposes, it is administered as allergen-specific immunotherapy (either subcutaneously or sublingually) to modulate the patient's immune response, reducing symptoms of allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergies, and asthma. The mechanism of action involves inducing immunological tolerance, characterized by changes in allergen-specific IgE levels and an increase in IgG blocking antibodies.
