Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cynodon dactylon pollen, also known as Bermuda grass pollen extract, is a standardized allergen extract used for both the diagnosis and treatment of allergies to Bermuda grass. [3, 5] The active ingredient is composed of extractables from *Cynodon dactylon* pollen, with the major allergenic component identified as Cyn d 1. [3, 5] As a biologic product, it is formulated into sterile solutions for administration. These extracts are used in skin tests (intradermal and prick/puncture) to diagnose sensitivity and as a form of allergen-specific immunotherapy administered via subcutaneous injection. [3] The therapeutic goal of this desensitization treatment is to reduce symptoms of allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergies, and asthma associated with Bermuda grass pollen. The mechanism of action involves modulating the patient's immune response to the allergen, which includes changes in IgE antibody levels and an increase in allergen-specific IgG blocking antibodies.
