Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cynril is a fentanyl citrate formulation developed by Fontus Health for the management of breakthrough cancer pain in patients who are already receiving and are tolerant to around-the-clock opioid therapy for their underlying persistent cancer pain. As a potent opioid receptor agonist, fentanyl citrate primarily targets the mu-opioid receptor in the central nervous system, providing rapid analgesia. The drug is administered as a compressed lozenge via the oral transmucosal route, allowing for fast absorption through the buccal mucosa and bypassing first-pass metabolism to address transitory exacerbations of pain. It is available in multiple strengths ranging from 200 to 1600 micrograms to allow for individual titration.
