The CYP cocktail-Chonbuk National University Hospital is a multi-drug diagnostic tool used in clinical research to simultaneously evaluate the metabolic activity of five major Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. Developed and utilized by Chonbuk National University Hospital, the cocktail consists of caffeine (to probe CYP1A2), losartan (CYP2C9), omeprazole (CYP2C19), dextromethorphan (CYP2D6), and midazolam (CYP3A4). By measuring the plasma concentrations or urinary metabolic ratios of these probe drugs and their metabolites, researchers can assess the impact of other substances—such as red ginseng or fermented-red ginseng—on drug-metabolizing enzyme systems. This cocktail approach is a standard methodology in clinical pharmacology for identifying potential drug-drug or herb-drug interactions in healthy volunteers.
