Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cyperi rhizoma extract is a botanical extract derived from the dried rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus L. (commonly known as nut grass or Xiang Fu). It has been traditionally used in Chinese and other Asian traditional medicine systems to treat various ailments, including gynecological disorders, stomach and bowel disorders, and inflammatory diseases. Recent research has highlighted its potential neuroprotective properties, demonstrating that the extract can inhibit amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregation and acetylcholinesterase activity, making it a candidate for the development of therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease. Active constituents identified within the extract, such as luteolin, nootkatone, and rhamnocitrin, act as specific binders to Aβ monomers, preventing toxic aggregation.
