Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cypermethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide and acaricide widely used in agriculture and domestic pest control. It acts as a fast-acting neurotoxin in insects by disrupting the function of voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSC), leading to prolonged channel opening, hyper-excitation of the nervous system, paralysis, and death. Cypermethrin also modulates other ion channels (chloride, calcium, potassium) and neurotransmitter systems. It is non-systemic and non-volatile; its effects are primarily through contact or ingestion. In veterinary medicine, it is used to control ectoparasites on cattle, sheep, poultry, and companion animals[1][3][4][5][6][8].
