CypsCaps is a localized cellular therapy developed by PharmaCyte Biotech for the treatment of solid tumors, most notably locally advanced pancreatic cancer, and malignant ascites. The therapy utilizes the proprietary Cell-in-a-Box live-cell encapsulation technology to house genetically engineered human cells (HEK293-derived) that constitutively express the cytochrome P450 2B6 enzyme. These microcapsules are implanted via the blood supply near a tumor, where they function as a bio-artificial liver. When the chemotherapy prodrug ifosfamide is administered systemically at low doses, it is activated by the encapsulated cells specifically at the tumor site, generating high concentrations of cancer-killing metabolites locally while reducing systemic side effects.
