Overview

CYR-064 is a novel, patent-protected intranasal formulation of the broad-spectrum phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor theophylline. It is being developed as a soft-mist nasal spray for the treatment of post-viral hyposmia (partial loss of smell), with potential application in other olfactory disorders such as anosmia. The drug works by inhibiting cAMP degradation in olfactory neurons, thereby increasing intracellular cAMP concentrations and enhancing neuron excitability. This mechanism aims to restore or improve olfactory function in patients suffering from smell loss following viral infections—a condition for which there are currently no approved pharmaceutical treatments. The product utilizes advanced delivery technology (Ursatec's 3K pump system and Resyca soft mist spray) to optimize deposition and absorption within the olfactory region. As of May 2025, CYR-064 has completed enrollment in a Phase 2 randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial ("FLAVOR") evaluating its safety and efficacy for post-viral hyposmia[1][3][5][7][9][10].
