Cys-annexin A5 is an engineered recombinant variant of the human protein Annexin A5, developed by MosaMedix as a versatile platform for imaging and targeted therapy. The protein is modified with a specific cysteine residue to allow for site-specific conjugation of various payloads, such as fluorescent dyes, radiopharmaceuticals, or therapeutic agents. It functions by binding with high affinity and specificity to phosphatidylserine (PS), a phospholipid that is translocated from the inner to the outer leaflet of the cell membrane during apoptosis and other forms of cell death. By targeting PS-exposed cells, Cys-annexin A5 enables the visualization of dying tissue in conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic inflammation, and serves as a vehicle for the localized delivery of treatments to these sites.
