Overview

Cystoliberin is a combination product developed by Grand Medical Group, primarily indicated for the management and prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as cystitis. The formulation typically consists of **D-mannose** and **cranberry extract** (standardized for proanthocyanidins). D-mannose acts as a competitive inhibitor of bacterial adhesion by binding to the **FimH adhesins** located on the tips of type 1 fimbriae of uropathogenic *Escherichia coli* (*UPEC*). This binding prevents the bacteria from attaching to the mannosylated receptors on the bladder urothelium. Complementarily, cranberry proanthocyanidins interfere with the adhesion of P-fimbriated *E. coli*. By inhibiting colonization, these components facilitate the mechanical flushing of pathogens from the urinary tract during urination. Cystoliberin is marketed in various regions as either a branded generic medicine or a high-quality nutraceutical.
