CYT-AT1 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target the Ephrin type-A receptor 3 (EphA3). Developed by QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in collaboration with CYTEPH, the therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes EphA3, a receptor tyrosine kinase that is frequently overexpressed in a variety of solid and hematological malignancies, including glioblastoma, melanoma, and certain leukemias, while maintaining low expression in normal adult tissues. Upon administration, these engineered T cells bind to EphA3-expressing tumor cells, triggering T-cell activation, proliferation, and the release of cytotoxic granules to induce tumor cell lysis. CYT-AT1 is currently being investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the treatment of advanced solid and hematological tumors.
