CYT006-AngQb is an investigational therapeutic vaccine developed for the treatment of hypertension. It is a virus-like particle (VLP) conjugate vaccine, where a peptide derived from angiotensin II is covalently attached to the surface of VLPs. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the patient's immune system to produce antibodies against angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict and increases blood pressure. By neutralizing angiotensin II, the vaccine aims to reduce its binding to receptors and thus lower blood pressure. Clinical trials demonstrated that vaccination with CYT006-AngQb induced strong anti–angiotensin II antibody responses and led to modest reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, particularly effective in reducing early morning surges. The drug was administered subcutaneously and showed good safety and tolerability profiles with mostly mild local reactions at injection sites. However, development was discontinued after phase II trials due to limited efficacy compared with standard antihypertensive drugs[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
