Overview
CYT013-IL1bQb is a therapeutic vaccine developed to target interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drug consists of modified IL-1β molecules coupled to a virus-like particle (Qb), designed to induce an immune response against IL-1β. By stimulating the immune system to generate antibodies against this pro-inflammatory cytokine, the therapy aims to modulate inflammation associated with metabolic disease and improve glycemic control. The drug was initially developed by Cytos Biotechnology AG and later associated with Kuros Biosciences Ltd. Clinical development reached phase I/II trials for type 2 diabetes but was ultimately discontinued[2][3][4].
