Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CYTA-001 is a liver-targeted, polymeric nanoparticle formulation encapsulating a potent thyromimetic drug that acts as a thyroid hormone receptor β (TRβ) agonist. Developed by Cyta Therapeutics, this investigational therapy uses the IntelliGel platform—a nanogel system designed for selective delivery to hepatocytes via organic anion-transporting polypeptide (OATP) receptors. Once inside liver cells, the nanogel disassembles in response to intracellular glutathione, releasing the TRβ agonist to activate its target and modulate metabolic pathways. Preclinical studies in diet-induced obese mice demonstrated complete reversal of body weight gain and significant improvements in metabolic parameters such as fatty liver, cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin resistance, and elevated liver enzymes. The approach aims to maximize efficacy while minimizing systemic exposure and side effects commonly associated with thyromimetics[1][4][5].
