Overview
Cytarabine + eltrombopag is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in hematological conditions. Cytarabine is an antimetabolite chemotherapy agent that inhibits DNA synthesis by acting as a cytosine nucleoside analog; it is mainly used to treat acute myeloid leukemia and other leukemias. Eltrombopag is a small molecule thrombopoietin receptor agonist that stimulates the production of platelets by binding to the transmembrane domain of the thrombopoietin receptor, activating the JAK/STAT signaling pathway and promoting megakaryocyte proliferation and differentiation[3][5][6]. Eltrombopag is indicated for chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), severe aplastic anemia, and thrombocytopenia associated with hepatitis C[1][2][3][4]. The combination may be considered in clinical settings where both increased platelet production and anti-leukemic activity are desired.
