Overview

Cytarabine + etoposide is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two small molecule antineoplastic agents. Cytarabine is a pyrimidine nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by acting as an antimetabolite, primarily affecting cells in the S phase of the cell cycle. Etoposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces DNA strand breaks by preventing the religation of double-stranded DNA during replication. This combination has been used as salvage therapy for relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). The regimen may be referred to as CYVE or EC depending on context[1][6]. Both drugs are administered intravenously, often in high doses, and are associated with significant hematologic toxicity.
