Cytarabine is an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis by competing with cytidine for incorporation into DNA and inhibiting DNA polymerase. Pegaspargase is an enzyme that depletes systemic L-asparagine, an amino acid essential for the survival of leukemic blasts that lack asparagine synthetase.
