cythioate

Cythioate is an organothiophosphate compound used primarily as a veterinary insecticide and anthelmintic. It is indicated for the control of fleas and ticks in dogs, demodectic mange in dogs, and fleas in cats. Cythioate acts as a **cholinesterase inhibitor**, interfering with the normal function of acetylcholinesterase enzymes in parasites, leading to their paralysis and death. It is administered orally and has been marketed under the trade names Cyflee and Proban since at least the late 1960s. Its use is mainly restricted to veterinary medicine.
