Cytidine monophosphate (CMP) is a pyrimidine nucleotide that serves as a fundamental building block for RNA synthesis and a critical intermediate in the Kennedy pathway for phospholipid biosynthesis. Pharmacologically, CMP is primarily utilized as a neuroprotective and neuroregenerative agent, often administered in combination with other nucleotides (such as uridine monophosphate or triphosphate) and Vitamin B12. It acts as an anabolic precursor, providing essential substrates for the synthesis of structural phospholipids like phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin, which are vital components of neuronal membranes and the myelin sheath.
