Overview

Cyto-MSC is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from the umbilical cord, developed by Cytopeutics Sdn. Bhd. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of grade II-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in patients who are receiving front-line corticosteroid therapy. The therapeutic mechanism involves the immunomodulatory properties of MSCs, which migrate to sites of inflammation and suppress the activation and proliferation of donor-derived alloreactive T-cells. This is achieved through the secretion of various anti-inflammatory mediators such as indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and cytokines like IL-10 and TGF-beta, as well as direct cell-to-cell interactions, thereby reducing tissue damage and promoting immune tolerance.
