Overview

Cytochrome c is a small hemeprotein that functions as a vital component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, where it shuttles electrons between Complex III (ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase) and Complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase). This specific formulation, developed by Chengdu Tongde Pharmaceutical and marketed under the brand name Liyang (力漾), is an intravenous injection approved in China for the adjuvant treatment of various conditions involving tissue hypoxia and impaired cellular respiration. Its primary clinical applications include the management of carbon monoxide poisoning, acute myocardial infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, and certain forms of heart failure or hepatitis. By providing exogenous cytochrome c, the therapy aims to facilitate the restoration of aerobic metabolism and enhance ATP production in cells suffering from oxygen deficiency or metabolic distress.
