CytoCor is a stem cell–derived, transparent human corneal-like tissue developed by International Stem Cell Corporation as a potential regenerative medicine product for corneal transplantation and as an in vitro model for safety testing of drugs, chemicals, and consumer products.[6][8] Generated from the company’s proprietary parthenogenetic pluripotent stem cells or embryonic stem cells, CytoCor corneal tissue is engineered to recapitulate key structural, biochemical, and refractive properties of the human cornea, with the aim of providing standardized, high-volume graft material that avoids disease-transmission risks associated with donor corneas and reduces reliance on animal eyes in toxicity testing.[6][8] The program remains at the discovery and preclinical proof-of-concept stage with ongoing collaborations to evaluate tissue handling, suturability, and biocompatibility in ophthalmic models.[6][8]
