Overview

CytoHep is a regenerative cell therapy product being developed by International Stem Cell Corporation (ISCO) for the treatment of metabolic liver diseases and liver cirrhosis. The therapy consists of a homogenous population of hepatocyte-like cells derived from human parthenogenetic stem cells (hpSC), which are pluripotent stem cells created from unfertilized human eggs through a proprietary process called parthenogenesis. CytoHep is designed to replace or support damaged hepatocytes and restore essential liver functions. Preclinical characterization has shown that these cells express hepatic lineage markers and exhibit key functional activities, including indocyanine green clearance, glycogen storage, and cytochrome P450 activity. In vivo studies in animal models, such as Gunn rats, have demonstrated that these cells can successfully engraft and correct metabolic deficiencies like elevated serum bilirubin.
