Overview

Cytokine-induced memory-like natural killer cells are a specialized type of immune cell therapy created by briefly exposing natural killer (NK) cells to a combination of cytokines (typically interleukin (IL)-12, IL-15, and IL-18[1][2]). After this brief stimulation and a subsequent resting period, these cells demonstrate enhanced effector functions, including increased cytokine production and cytotoxicity against tumor targets[3]. This "memory-like" property allows them to maintain their enhanced functionality for weeks following the initial activation[2][5]. Unlike conventional NK cells, CIML NK cells exhibit adaptive and memory-like features despite being classified as innate lymphoid cells[2]. They undergo transcriptional, epigenetic, and metabolic reprogramming that contributes to their enhanced capabilities[2].
