Cytomegalovirus immunoglobulin is a plasma-derived hyperimmune globulin being developed by Weiguang Biological Products for the prophylaxis and treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, particularly in high-risk patients such as those undergoing organ or bone marrow transplantation. The product is manufactured by purifying and concentrating anti-CMV antibodies from the pooled plasma of healthy donors with high antibody titers. Its mechanism of action is passive immunization; the administered antibodies bind to and neutralize CMV virions, preventing them from infecting host cells and thereby reducing the risk of CMV-related diseases like pneumonia, hepatitis, and retinitis. It is typically administered via intravenous infusion.
