Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cytomegalovirus immunoglobulin (CMV-IGIV), also known as CMV hyperimmunoglobulin, is a purified, sterile solution of immunoglobulin G (IgG) obtained from pooled human plasma of donors with high titers of antibodies against cytomegalovirus (CMV). It is primarily indicated for the prophylaxis of CMV infection and disease in patients undergoing solid organ transplantation (including kidney, liver, lung, heart, and pancreas) and has been used preemptively or adjunctively in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients. CMV-IGIV provides passive immunization by neutralizing extracellular CMV particles, preventing viral entry into host cells, and promoting clearance of the virus through antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and complement activation. Key commercial formulations include Cytogam (developed by MassBiologics, CSL Behring, and Kamada) and Cytotect/Megalotect (developed by Biotest).
