Overview

This investigational cellular immunotherapy consists of donor-derived, cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) developed at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (now Penn State Hershey Medical Center). The therapy is produced by expanding peripheral blood lymphocytes from stem cell donors ex vivo through stimulation with peptide mixes derived from the CMV antigens pp65 and IE-1. The resulting biologic product contains both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells that specifically target and eliminate CMV-infected cells. It is designed as an adoptive immunotherapy for treating persistent or therapy-refractory CMV infections in patients who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
