Multi-virus Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTLs) is an investigational adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by the Medical College of Wisconsin. The product consists of donor-derived, polyclonal CD4+ and CD8+ T cells that have been expanded ex vivo to specifically recognize and target immunodominant antigens from three common opportunistic viruses: Adenovirus (Ad), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). This therapy is primarily intended for prophylaxis in pediatric recipients of T-cell depleted allogeneic hematopoietic progenitor cell transplants (HPCT). These patients are at high risk for life-threatening viral infections due to the severe immunosuppression resulting from the removal of T cells from the graft. By restoring virus-specific immunity through the infusion of these trained CTLs, the therapy aims to prevent viral reactivation and disease without inducing graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
