Overview

CZEN-002 is a novel, synthetic anti-infective octapeptide derived from alpha-Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (α-MSH). It is a non-azole antifungal agent developed for the treatment of fungal infections, particularly vulvovaginal candidiasis caused by *Candida albicans*. Unlike traditional antifungals, its mechanism does not involve direct damage to the microbial membrane; instead, it appears to act via an unidentified receptor in yeast cells. In addition to its fungicidal activity against *C. albicans* and other *Candida* species (such as *C. krusei* and *C. glabrata*), CZEN-002 modulates inflammatory and immune responses by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6) and increasing anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 secretion. Preclinical studies demonstrated efficacy in animal models of vaginal candidiasis, while early clinical trials showed high cure rates in patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis[1][4][5][6].
