D-fluoromethyltyrosine F-18 is a radiopharmaceutical tracer used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It is a novel 18F-labeled tyrosine derivative that is rapidly transported by the L-amino acid transporter (LAT-1) with faster blood pool clearance than the corresponding L-isomer. The D-isomer of 18F-FMT provides better tumor-to-blood and tumor-to-liver ratios compared to the L-isomer, making it valuable for tumor detection and monitoring early-phase response to radiation therapy. The radioisotope fluorine-18 has a half-life of approximately 110 minutes and decays by positron emission (97%) and electron capture (3%).
