Drug intelligence / Profile preview
D-NMMA (D-NG-monomethylarginine) is the D-enantiomer of NG-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA), a structural analog of arginine. Unlike its L-form counterpart—which is a competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (NOS)—D-NMMA is considered biologically inactive and does not inhibit NOS at physiologically relevant concentrations. It is primarily used as a negative control in research studies investigating the role of nitric oxide and NOS inhibition. The compound is cell-permeable and soluble in water or methanol. It has no known therapeutic use and is not approved for human or veterinary medicine; it is strictly for research purposes[3][4][6].
